Kwikset problem

Postby sugurfoot » 18 Aug 2007 23:03

What would be the reason after re pinning it the key goes around and around and dosent stop. I put the d shaft and clip on correctly but it keeps going around. I also had one after it was installed a week later the d shft kept comming off, I put the clip on and checked it, re installed it,and it came off again.

Sounds to me like you are using the wrong clip. THe clip should be a T style clip that has a portion that sticks down into the tailpiece to lock it in place. When I say a T style clip, it should be a standard C clip but should have a portion that protrudes from the center of the C that locks into the tail piece.

Hope that helps.

Kwiksets locks do that when they're not attached to the rest of it's hardware and mounted.

Even with the clip and tailpiece on it does this. There isn't any problem with it, so try installing it and turn the key and you will find that it doesn't turn in continuous revolutions like to stated before.

It sure does sound like a problem with the clip. Does the dead bolt function at least?

From your original question you failed to tell us if it was a deadbolt or a knob. You are therefore getting responses covering both.

If it is a knob, tighten (close) the C-clip before reinstalling. Make sure the spindle is completely seated in the knob. Make sure the cylinder is fully snapped back into the knob face. Test before installing.

If it is a deadbolt, as stated before me, make sure you are using an E-clip and that is is tight and fully in place. The center tab of the E-clip must go into (single or outside on doubles) or on top of (inside on doubles) the tail piece. Check the tailpiece by hand to see if it spins fully or only goes about 180 degrees.

Also check that the bolt itself is not broken and the actuator is what is spinning around.

If it is a deadbolt and not reinstalled in the deadbolt, of course the key will spin around. the lock has to be assemble for it to catch.
