the orginal poster may be interested to know, that the stainless steel used in the headset bands on cheap electronics is very useful for making picks,

It is tempered after it was bent to the curvature, and for making picks, you need it straight.

You likely will not get it perfect but if you take care not to induce any sharp new bends in the process you can get it straight enough to begin making the picks,

Try this, put a little bit of wax or grease on a metal tube or cylinder of about an inch around, then clamp vice grip pliers on both ends of the headphone wire. clamp the tube in a bench vice I am assuming that the tube you chose is smooth not rough on the outside.

hold your flat wire that you are straightening over the tube at one end of the wire, while holding both pliers on each end of the wire, bend it slightly over the piece of greased tubing, and move the whole wire so that the bend travels along the length of the wire, without increasing its angle at any one part. the grease will help, you can make several passes accross the tube, so that your bend travels the length of the tube and does not stop or change angle from one end to the other.

This will straighten out the wire to a gentle curve which is close enough, when you get to the point of cutting three inch pieces off and working them into picks, the work itself will tend to straighten out the bend as you make it, and this work in part retempers the metal through work hardening. if you have some really difficult curves, you could force them flat and apply heat evenly along the length of the metal but not til its red, just enough heat to retemper the metal to the new set.

Strip the sound-making parts down to just the transducers and use them as contact mics. You have to amplify the ... out of them, though, and they're really delicate without the shell around them, so glob some hot melt glue around the end of the cord as strain relief.

actually they are not transducers. they can be made into but default they would actually be projectors as they are when they are headphones. and here i thought i would never go into specifics about my job on here.

well . i used a part of the headphonebands i had at home to make a bogota rake, and it works perfectly the only thing you need to do is a buttload of sanding , but its worth it, the end product is great
