Ok so i recently picked up two of these corbin (door?) locks..

I have only picked them once using a tension wrench, Then i was picking them just using the arm to hold the tension. It became really easy and i decided to open one up, so i find this

This is the first lock ive picked with that many spools. but my question is, what are the other two pins for. Do they act like spools so when picking they catch on the sheer line feeling just like a pin?

The other question i have is, how do i re-assemble this lock, i've done a few Yales and such now, but i cant fit my little plug follower through the hole at the back and get the rest of the parts back in.

I dont know much about the lock its self, It has: CUK48 166 punched on the side.

thanks guys

In a pinch, a rolled up piece of paper will work as a plug follower. If you can find a pen, even a felt tip pen that's close to the right size, that will work too. It doesn't need to fit quite as tight as the real thing as long as you can push it up against the pins when inserting the plug.

Those two pins are for masterkeying. Masterkeying allows a lock to have two or more keys (cut differently) that can open it. You can imagine that those two pin stacks now each have another height they can be lifted to by the key and still set. Also, masterkeyed locks tend to be a little easier to pick than the same non-masterkeyed lock for the same reason.

You make it sound like you bought this from directly from a hardware store. I've never heard of master pin being found in locks like that, but I guess its possible.

i have a plug follower i made a set at work, i just cant get the back of the lock in the same place now.. And maintenanceguy, i understand now, these locks were given to me by my dad, where he works they use these locks on portacabins ect.. they are masterkeyd so if someone who rents it looses the key, then they can open them back up, he has a huge set of master keys, it just didnt click to me what they were for until now.. When i put them back in, do i put them on the top, or bottom pins?

thanks alot guys :D :)

It will be easier to put them in as a key/bottom pin but you can put them in as either. Congrats btw Corbin's are far from easy locks to start on spool pins with.

Yeah, i was shocked i could pick it, but its probably not right as i'm not using a tensioner, im using the latch at the back to apply the tension, so i have alot more room to work in the keyway. maybe its luck, but i can feel what i'm doing, except i dont find the binding pin, i just go from the back and give each pin a push then go through finding the ones with more pressure, so they are the pins that are binding.. hah wow i am a retard :( :P
But yeah, thanks for your help ill try each way, im just stuck at the min, cos i get all the bottom pins in, with the plug follower, then i cant work out how to get the plug.. back in the body cos my plug follower wont come out the other side. if you know what i mean

Thanks guys :)
