Why do I get the feeling that JackNCO's idea is not one of them?

I have to say that i agree with JackNCO. I feel bad for you man, but when i was about 16 my parents didn't want me getting into lock picking either. Well i'm a little bit older now and for the most part make my own money and i'm at a point in my life where i can do this now in my own household.
It's no fun to be told what to do, but they're your folks.
Lets just say you do somehow get the lock picks, if your parents find them i imagine a rather unpleasant results for you. Being grounded is never fun.

Here's a link to the first NDE Mag. It has a nice few pages about ethics if your parents decide they want to give it a chance. Personally, if you've never done anything that wrong I think they should trust you, but hey, parents vary. At worst, you'll have to wait a few years. Like it's been said before, it's just that most people can't imagine this as a hobby, as they've mainly been exposed to in from a criminal point of view. I think they'll eventually realise that your interest is legitimate after some time. Hell I was always interested in this stuff when I was a kid, and I though I was crazy. I never knew communities like this existed, or that people even had this as a hobby.

Ditto, I think convince them, and if you can't, show your maturity by accepting it, and spend your time reading up on the theory, it's not so bad, it's what I had to do while waiting for my pickset to come in.
Hopefully, if you accept their decision, they'll be more open to it in the future.
