Question about Impressioning Tool

I noticed HPC sells an impressioning tool, CGIT-10, i was just curious is there any added benefit from using this tool over say a pair of channel lock pliers?

Do you mean VISE GRIPS?
Either one will hold the key TIGHT, but vice grips can be used for other things too

Very similar, I usually use a pair of locking pliers similar to these. I was just curious if there was any added benefit to using a tool like that from hpc vs' a cheap plier.

I've never used it, but this product advertises no damage to the bow of the key whereas vice grips would leave teeth and gouges from slipping. I'm guessing the HPC thing is also easier to hold, push, twist, etc.

when I started impressioning I used a 6 inch vise grips with very good results. Being the internet "junkie" I am, and always looking for new toys I purchased this tool with mixed results. I found I had a better grip with the pliers. Save your money.

Stay with the locking pliers they do just as good and save yourself some money if you have a pair already.

Theoretically you could dip the teeth of the vice grips in this stuff called plastidip. It's like the rubber crap they have on the handle of pliers. In theory it wouldn't damage the key in any way.

An impression tool, that holds the blank tightly and provides a comfortable grip is much better than a pair of vice grips. Your hands are a tool, so why treat them like a hammer?
If the only tool you own is a hammer everything looks like a nail. Lock and bump in comfort, spend your time looking for marks to file, not massaging your cramped hand.
