Patience, knowledge, heart and steel.

That's pretty much how you pick any lock. Sidebar or otherwise.
If you have a sidebar lock, tear it down, and see how it is put together. There are ways to exert pressure on the sidebar and cause it to bind.

If after working with the lock, and doing some research you are still unable to get it, ask again and we will see if we can guide you a bit more.

I was curious about this as well, havent seen it any of the books I've bought, or any of the articles I've read.

had a chance to play with a cutaway ASSA lock yesterday - assuming no false notches, would torquing the plug exert a trapping force on the sidebar and in turn the pins?

at least thats what I figured.
The meaning of life, the universe and everything is 42.

Inflation however, may have changed this.
...
edit: yup, its definately 43 now

Studying exploded images of the particular lock, combined with understanding the mechanics of the lock following a strip down, will greatly enhance your picking experience Grasshopper.......

Well, speaking for my own vehicle, let them.
It certainly won't get them anywhere. Without the proper key, and code my car won't start.

No, you can't remove, bypass or disable my vehicle security system. It is such an integrated part of the vehicle electronics that attempting to do so would reguire a minimum of 12 hours solid work. Assuming you knew what to do, and how to do it.

Immediate discharge of the battery will not bypass the system, breaking the glass or even removing it will set off the system.
Continued tampering with the security system will result in the complete disruption of the engine management system. It wipes the EPROM rendering the car inoperative.

Yes, you can open the car with relative ease if you are a locksmith. That alone will not trigger the alarm. Failure to input the control, and disable codes will result in the system triggering after 60 seconds.

Attempting to remove the stereo system will result in a thief finding components attached to the vehicle with security hardware. These attachment points require significantly more time than 60 seconds to bypass.

Most of the electrical system has been rearranged and much of it is supplied with monitored redundant systems to prevent failure of the system. Cut wires result in a visual indication, and attachment of a computer shows a graphical display of the circuit involved.

I've considered installing alarm activated digital video to monitor the car in case the security system is triggered. I just haven't done it yet. Since the car falls under private property laws, any video shot of the interior of the car is admisable as evidence in a court of law.

My objective isn't strictly to prevent theft. It is also to deny reward to the would be thief. On the other hand, if you wanted to beat the shit out of my car, you can get a lot done in 60 seconds.

I'm not saying that picking these locks is easy, nor am I saying that I can easily pick a 10 cut sidebar ignition lock. What I'm trying to get across is that this sort of info should be kept out of the public domain. The door locks are not too hard, granted, but it only takes one person 'showing off' and posting a way to defeat ignitions and the whole world can view the aforementioned info, thanks to Google. As this site is indexed by Google, more than likely the first hit will be attributed as coming from LP101. This is not what this site is about. Whether or not a successful theft comes from what is contained within these pages, I'd rather the subject matter was kept within the deserving participants and not for the whole world to see. Better that the info came from another site and not LP101.
