Felony...

Now i know what your gonna say... that im a fool and yes i know i am but i want to tell you my situation.....

I was on drugs a few years ago and i was hanging with the wrong kinda of people and i got talked into trying to steal cars... anyways i started researching on the web on how to get into locks and stuff, well I did this for 2 yrs and never got caught... what got me caught was i got too bold and started doing storages.... anyways i was caught because it was inevitable... So now I have a commercial burglary felony on my record.. but this last few years i have been seriously studying locksmithing ya know? I even went and took the foley-belsaw course and passed it.. but i have basically ruined every chance for me to become a locksmith... right? Or is there any possible way I could be one? That is my question.....I regret it every day of my life... Locksmithing is so fun.. the only thing i can think of is to get off probation and have my record expunged then maybe i could get bonded and hired right? I know im a fool just please dont rag on me as i am seriously asking for your help.... Thank you for reading this and God Bless you all!

bro, your pretty much screwed. at least for a long long time.
In my state. {Oregon} you can not be a locksmith, repo man or tow truck driver if you have a felony on your record. I think there are ways arounbf this but it all depends on how you work it. first off you need to get in like flim with a locksmith who likes you as a person. not a lockpicker not a locksmith but who likes you as a person, becuase you are goig to ask him to do a lot for you by hiring you.
becuase you got your ass in trouble, its going to be hard, he dont want that kind of crap to worry about. your criminal recond and your driving record could make or break the job.
here is what you need to do. .. you need to wait 10 years after the crime. {i only have 2 more years!} then you need to go to collage and get you peneral contractors lisense.. now he can hire you....with out hiring you..lol.. you have to do all your own taxes.. you are pretty much your oen boss.. but you "work" for the locksmith. when calls come in and some one need a car key made he {the locksmith} will quote the job.. then call you.. ...you go do the job and report back to him {with the chck or money} and then he will pay you for the job or for the week or whatever.
some state dont require much to be a locksmith.. other states are cracking down on it as we speek. so.. its up in the air.
I do know in oregon you can not apply for a locksmiths lisense untill you have clear conduct for 10 years in a row.

Well we all make mistakes.... and it sounds like you did your time and so on. (even if you were only charged with a small percentage of what you actually did)

From the sounds of what jimmy said its technically possible. but If you were a locksmith that had worked hard to build up a reputation. well would you hire you? No offense but from what you have told me (and im basing this on facts not you as a person) I probably wouldn't.

But On the same note I wish you luck and hope you can stay on the right side of the law. I think the biggest problem is that its so hard to reintegrate your self even after you have "done your time"

here in nebraska felonies aren't an automatic exclusion from obtaining a locksmith license. according to our states statutes that were revised it states no where that being a felon that they will deny you. i'm a felon and have also talked to numerous shops and they all have said it's based on the shops and their reputation type thing. hope that gives you some hope like it's given me.
