Well i just recieved my new padlock shims and boy am i happy, wait no im not. I cant even get the bloody things to work on a 5 year old master combination lock?
I was wonder if u guys could tell me how, and which size works on master combo locks.

the curve of the shim should be snug with the shackle around where it touches. Also, the lock might be the kind that is shim-proof.

Thats right a 5 year old master combination padlock which i just saw on H2K getting shimed, is shim proof. Interesting, interesting.

I have a set and I used the "C" size on a standard Master combination lock. As for it not fitting between the shackel and the case of the lock I have no idea, mine went right in. One thing you should try is to pull the shackel away from where you are trying to insert the shim so that you create a bigger gap between the shackel and the case. Also where are you trying to put the shim in at, you can't put it in right on top of where the shackel locks up, you have to put it around 90 degrees to either side of that, and be sure to try both sides. Once you have the shim in the lock, all you have to do is rotate it around in the direction of the locking mechanism and the lock should pop open. I have found that when rotating the shim it helps to slightly squeeze the two tabs together and be sure to push the shim down into the lock while you rotate it, otherwise instead of pushing the locking mechanism out of the way it will just ride up on it.

Oh yeah forgot to mention this. Just because the shims worked on the lock in the h2k2 videos does not mean they will work on yours. The shackel and the holes in the case have a range of acceptable tolerances. If you were to get a lock that had a shackel on the high end of the tolerance range and a hole that was on the low end of the tolerance range the space between the shackel and the case would be minimized, possibly to such an extent that padlock shims would not work on your lock.

Based in my experience i can say that padlock shims will not work on most padlocks.

I mean that there are some questions that are asked for new members and replied by old ones very often.

One of those questions is about padlock shims, so considering that in FAQ forum we have:

Sticky: FAQ: I've Seen The Selection, But What Should I Buy?
Sticky: FAQ: How/Where Can I Take Locksmithing class/courses?
Sticky: FAQ: Where Can I Buy Picks?
Sticky: MIT Guide, Locksmith Course, Impressioning Guide, H2K Videos

something like "Sticky: Padlock shims" should be created.

And you could explain there that padlock shims donÂ´t work on most padlocks.

And now that we are talking about frequently asked questions other sticky that should be created is "Sticky: Normal/Slim picks, What should i buy?"

And tell there that euro picks (slim ones) are a better choice in any case.
