Interest in a peterson government just picks set?

I got to thinking about this today while using my standard plastic handled picks. I wanted to hear what everyone else though about the idea.

So here is an interested thread to see just how many people would be willing to buy some "just picks" sets in government steel with plastic handles. If we get a decent amount of interest I could run the idea by Ken and see if he would be willing to do an lp101 run of these picks. If he is willing to do it as a just picks set and not include a case that could save everyone some bucks. I do know that he is selling individual government steel picks right now on his site at $15 each. I would figure that the plastic pick handled picks could be a bit cheaper, but doing a special run would likely drive the price up. I figure the cost of the picks would be anywhere from $13 to $18 per pick (this is just my guess, I have not spoke with Ken about this). High price but if you have never used one of the government steel picks you don't really know what you are missing. These picks are outstanding in feel even with the rubber handle(the gov steel picks have almost as good feedback as the standard picks in plastic handles and they are super strong.

Any thoughts

depending on price I would be up for a set. To be honest I would be more interested in seeing the standard, slimline and DCAP picks all on sale with plastic handles, I like to know I can replace trashed and lost tools.

But as a one off I think I would still grab a set.

Yeah if the price isn't too terribly high, I would most likely pick up a set as well.

yes ! count me in ... I like the NO Case idea .. I have plenty of cases ,only carry one and don't need another.

I'd buy a set if the number of picks isn't huge. I can justify anything up to $100, but doubt I can go much further than that. I've been wanting to try their plastic handles and this seems like a good way to do it. Great idea!

if we have the choice the SPP tools in gov steel would be good. IMHO that much on a rake is just a waste. that said i haven't tried them and they would transfer energy much better.

Well just to be sure of the level of interest we'll say the picks are $19 each. We can request specific picks possibly but that again would be an even more "one of" for him to have done and will likely again cost more due to setup costs for special runs. When doing things such as this one usually has a cost for any change made to a set simply because the factory has more setup time involved etc. I would bank on them being complete "just pick" sets and not get into only doing specific picks. I am assuming that the sets would be 9 picks at $19 each just for the sake of having a list of those truly interested and not "maybe depending on price". I need to be able to approach Ken with a solid number of sets. THe more we get the better the price will be more than likely. I would figure on the sets being around the $170 mark with no case or other tools. This is alot of money but still cheaper than the smallest government set he sells as a kit and it would give us the plastic handles we want.

I wasn't sure what you meant at first, until I dug in my memory banks a bit. The issue is that government steel picks don't normally come with plastic handles; only rubber handles? And Ken does a "Just Picks" with plastic handles, but only in spring steel.

So, the idea is to merge two different product types into one. A "Just Picks" featuring plastic handles together with his "government stainless steel" pick material. Correct?

hmmmmm, at that price I think I would have to say I'm out. I would love them but I think I will have to say no. $170 for a set I will probably only use a couple of picks from is a little excessive for me.

Sorry but I'm in the same boat as JackNco on this one. Thanks to your thread I just noticed Peterson has just started offering a Deforest style pick (My first pick of chioce) in Government steel... I'm absolutely gonna have to get one of those.

If I had the extra cash at hand I would love to have a second smaller set I can carry with me on my days off and have my main big set for days I work, but right now I have so many other financial obligations I have to fulfill so now is probably not the best time for this.

Yeah i guess i thought you meant a bigger discount than that. I will have to back out as well. That much money could buy a few other things on my list.
