Looks like a decent set, though i'd go for a MPXS set (southord) from lockpickshop.com, just my opinion. As for spring vs stainless, there are a number of threads already if you search, but just cause I'm nice, try this:

It is acceptable. I noticed there is no half diamond pick which I find useful. On the other hand, not to confuse you; it is certainly an acceptable starter and if you get hooked plenty of time to buy additional picks and wrenches.

i agree with dragunov.
personnally i would go with a southord one, cause you have another kind of tension wrench, and I personally dont like this kind of tension but thats me

Ok, so from lockpickshop.com, these are what you can get for a kinda similar price:
http://www.lockpickshop.com/MPXS-08.html is $30 - 8pce set, unfortunately no deep hook.
http://www.lockpickshop.com/PXS-14.html is $27 - 14pce - 10 picks, 4 tension wrenches, everything you need.
http://www.lockpickshop.com/MPXS-14.html is $40 - 14pce, as above, with metal handles. These are the ones I own, they haven't failed me yet. The handles do make a hell of a difference.
Hope this helps.

Sorry to double post, but if money is an issue, go to the "Lockpicks - Manual" forum and read the sticky "Shrub's Guide to Lockpick Making".

I would go with the top one made by South Ord. The bottom one looks way too similar to the pick tools made by A-1 and those things are crap.
They have something like a chrome or nickel plating on the metal that will eventually chip and flake away and make the tools look all nasty and cheap. My shop has a bunch of them and they're all messed up.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
