Homemade Picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Homemade Picks

I want to make a set of picks (though not homemade, i'm just making the design and going to a workshop to get it done). However there are certain things that's a problem. What's a cheap and tough material to use. Cheap aluminiums, crap. Strong modern alloys, too expensive. Whats a good material, say 30x30 to 50x50 cm i size. P.S: would anyone be kind enough to give me a description of a regular pick (handle length, shaft length, thickness, shape, etc)

Some of the best I have found is the small plumbing snakes for sinks. The material is perfect in size for making picks and other tools.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Another alternative to plumbing snake is the fish tape sold at some hardware stores near the electronics. This metal tape is available in the same size as plumbing snake and is mainly used for fishing cable from inside interior walls.
