Medeco Question?

Postby criminalhate » 15 Oct 2007 22:34

This may be advanced if it is feel free to lock it / delete whatever would make it advanced.

I have a deadbolt cylinder made by medeco I removed the pin stacks all ready but I'm wondering how to disable the sidebar on it to remove the key plug (I believe thats what it's called). Should I be able to use I pick to depress it or is it something even more complicated that I'm not realizing?

the pat no for this lock is 3499302 (don't want to link direct to it in case it is advanced)

Thank you everyone

Do take out the sidebar you have to remove the tailpiece on the back, turn the cylinder over and remove the plug altogether. Be careful you don't lose the hardened anti-drill inserts, as they may fall out when you remove the plug.

The sidebar itself won't keep the plug from being removed, if your goal is just to disassemble the lock just drop all the pin stacks, remove the tailpiece, and pull the plug out.

Since this doesn't discuss bypassing the lock I don't see why it would be advanced.

I have removed all the pin stacks and the tail piece. It still does not want to come out. It slides a few millimeters forward but it will not let me remove it.

The anti-drill inserts in the front of the shell are getting in the way. Take a look at the face of the lock and look for small crescent-shaped pieces of metal protruding from the shell and blocking the plug. Use a hook pick to press them out of the way until you can remove plug. I suggest that you remove them so you don't have to deal with this again. Also, I suggest leaving the sidebar in while you practice and just remove pinstacks to make it easier. I don't think that tip qualifies as advanced material, but I could be wrong. Also, if you remove the sidebar, be very careful not to lose the two tiny sidebar springs.

rotate

Postby raimundo » 16 Oct 2007 7:22

If its the half moon drill breakers that are keeping it in, you can just rotate the plug till that no longer occurs, put a pick in there and look for a bottom pin still in the plug if you cant rotate it.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

when reassembling dont put the sidebar in backwards, make sure the anti drill ball bering.
I did this once and the plug fits but the key would not open the lock, only a quarter turn and gets stuck.
I learned quickly

Any lock I own that comes with a sidebar I usually smear a little bit of glue into the spring holes in the sidebar. Then I put it all back together and leave it alone for a couple hours and I never have to worry about losing another sidebar spring.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
