Foley-Belsaw Accessory Kits and Assortments?

Postby rwp42 » 18 Oct 2007 0:29

As a locksmith-in-training, I was wondering just how useful the following accessory / assortment kits really are? Are they a good value, or are they filled with stuff I am not likely to need?

5749661 $89.50 Cylinder Accessory Kit
5789620 $39.90 Locksmith Screw Assortment

Thanks.

If you service and do a lot of commercial work it will be helpful to have. But it's a waste if you buy them now if you're just studying locksmithing.

Thank you for the information! I'll put off the purchase until I really start working.

I would recommend saving and spending your money on things like a decent pick set, a LAB pin kit, some good swiss files for impressioning and stuff like that. Tools rather than supplies.

My Peterson Gov. Elite III set just came. I've been gradually building up my tools -- focusing on quality over quantity. I have a decent swiss file set now also. Otherwise, I've been investing in books and will be taking a correspondence course as soon as the materials come in the mail (and as soon as some of my questions are answered). Once the course is complete, it's my intention to get a Lab 0.003 Super Wedge and look for a local locksmith to apprentice to.

I've decided to focus on residential / commercial for the moment, so have not been purchasing anything that is automotive-centric. Autos will come later.
