When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I've been visiting these boards for a few years and they've been a tremendous resource of information. I have less experience than some here but I thought I should start trying to contribute where I can. I don't know if this is a new idea or not. The search function on this site seems a bit erratic and didn't come up with any matching results, but I've spent the past couple of weeks reading through old posts and I haven't seen this idea mentioned anywhere. Whenever my wife retires an old bra I always save the underwires to make lock picks and other tools. It's kind of like a heavy duty street sweeper brush, but with a nice curve to it. In the past I've used them for jimmying, but the other day I was looking at one and I thought they might be made into something like a Falle pick. Anyone else tried this already?

Yeah It was mentioned in the MacGyver lock pick thread I think. I've never had the opportunity to try to make a pick out of one though.
And yes the search seems to be lacking for some reason, unless its a PEBKAC issue on my side.

I'm afraid in order to make a better determination if this is a good material to use for pick making, we'll either need A. a photo of your wife wearing the bra before it was retired., or B. a photo of your wife, without the bra.
ps. and yes, this idea has been mentioned before. great minds think alike right?!

Funny you should mention it. When I was in my bedroom taking the picture of the underwire to post it here, she came in after taking a shower and asked what I was taking a picture of. I told her, and she asked me if I wanted 'before and after' pictures to go with the underwire, and then flashed me. I went to pick up the camera and she squealed and dove under the sheets. I think I'm going to have to take that as a no to your request Squelchtone. I tried though...

Talk about obsession! Your wife comes out of the shower and you are holding her bra and all you can think of is how to make a lockpick! ('')

I have toyed with the idea of using aluminum from cans, and doubleling it up, and then hammering it out. It amazingly worked for well-oiled, and newer locks. As for older locks, it would bend, distort, or break, such as padlock with springs on the keyway.

I made some picks out of bra underwire early this year. There are pics of them on the site somewhere. They work great.
