Disk Lock Trouble

Postby philjur » 15 Aug 2007 11:23

I recently purchased a disk lock that definitly has some security pins.

When I first took the lock out of the packaging and tried to pick it I had absolutly no success for about 20 min. I read somewhere that applying a feather like touch to the tesion wrench would make it easier and after about ten min of fiddling around I finally opened it. I locked it back up and for the last two days I haven't been able to open it again and I don't know what I'm doing wrong :?

A couple questions:
On several occassions I have started to pick the lock and it clicks to the right just slightly. I continue to pick the but nothing else happens. What does this mean?

Does it mean that some of the pins have fallen into place and only one or two are left so I should keep picking?

Is it one of the security pins throwing me off trying to make me think I have it when in fact I'm not even close?

Should I stop picking and start over when it partialy rotates like that?

Any input would be great!!!! Thanks

i am having the same problem, i have a chateau C970, and it rotates a bit after I set some pins, i think it is the security pins false setting, so take a lot of the tension off and try again. I will let you know if i find out anything else with my lock.

I didn't think disk tumbler locks could have "security tumblers."

yeah i saw it was a disk lock, but then someone brought up pins and chateau C970 and im pretty sure that the chateau has pins in it, and it is shaped like a disk, so i am not sure if it is a disk tumbler or pin tumbler in the shape of a disk. I have not seen what a disk tumbler looks like though, so i am not sure if my post will be much help here. I guess i am trying to clarify if it is like a chateau or if it is a disk tumbler, if you guys could explain more on disk tumblers that would help.
thanks

I will clarify. It is a lock shaped like a disc. But it has pin tumblers. :)

ok thats what i thought, so the chateau C970 is a good example of a disk lock? If it is then disk locks do have security pins, the c 970 has mushroom pins in it.

What works for me most of the time.

I have had my best success with these by slightly bouncing the tension wrench while raking the pins. Can usually get most like that. There is a video on YouTube that shows a perfect example of what I am talking about. Check it out.

I've had good success opening an Abus Buffo diskus lock using a tension wrench made out of the smallest windshield wiper blade insert and a SO slimline hook pick.

The DIY wrench perfectly fits at the top (in this case the bottom) of the keyway giving me good control of the tension to overcome the security pins.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
