asembeling safe locks and the spline key? 6700 3330

Hey all

OK this is a stupid question and I know it. but at the same time its taken me months to finally get my hands on these 2 locks as there was a problem in shipping so I don't want to do something silly and mess them up. so here goes. . .

When you insert the spline key in to the spline to lock the cam in place. does the long art or the short part go in to the groves? It looks like it should be the long end that goes in but at the same time it doesn't want to go in at all. is it a case of bashing it in till it wedges its self in? and if so does that mean once its in place thats it so I wanna measure it properly and make sure its in place.

I have a S&G 6700R and a LaGard 3332 lock. both in good nick.

On a side note if anyones selling a S&G change key I'm after one. thanks for the help

John

PS i put this in the open forums so it would get more hits. NO talking about opening them.

I've seen two different references for S&G with the opposite instructions. I suspect it doesn't matter.

Is this for mounting or in an actual safe? If just for mounting, it definitely doesn't matter, since if it comes loose, just open the back and fix it.

Sorry, I misread your question.

The LONG part goes in the groove. What doesn't seem to matter is wether
the short part points outside or inside.

the long part of the spline key goes first, you will have to tap it to go in though.

when you cut the spindle try maake it so when screwed together the end of the spindle sits a couple of threads below the pick up cam so when the spline key is in it doesnt hit on the back of the lock casing, also have the short part facing in also so it doesnt hit the back casing and so if you have to remove it, it is easier to lever it of the spindle instead of the brass
