ady1989's new pick set "worklog"

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I meant how well do the handles work like that with a hook tip. I find it quite awkward to SPP with my bogota single

They work quite well. I hold the actual tip between my index inger and thumb and wrap the rest of my fingers around the handle. It's not bad now, but it will be a lot better after I plasti-dip the picks.

By the actual tip I meant high up near the bend, if that makes sence. Sorry, I'm a little tired, it was a wild friday night :p.

To be honest, they work better than any commercial picks I tried so far. THey are not even polished flawlessly yet, I have a lot of sanding left to do on them. I have a question though... . How do you use a bogota pick? I have tried to follow the technique posted in other threads, but I just can't seem to get it down right! It's driving me nuts, I had mixed success with it but it was probably because I was getting mad and "raped" my locks by raking. I guess I need a video of someone using one. Can anyone PLEASE help me??

I just planned out my next picks. The set will contain 22 picks in total and 3 double ended tension wrenches. For now, I'll keep the next picks chosen to be made as a surprise. Cheers!

very nice picks

Postby Spossum » 27 Oct 2007 15:13

Hi Ady, you told me you would make some nice picks and you sure did!

Let us know how the rubber dipped handles work out, I have had better luck myself using the heat shrink wrap. I always get bubbles in the dipped stuff, and it is so expensive.

I agree also that bristles make the best tension wrenches of anything I have tried so far. If you haven't seen Kaotic's "tension wrench guide" you should look at it. He bends the bristles in a way I didn't think possible. My favorite tension wrench is one I got from him, a home-made version of the Peterson flat wrench. You could also use his method of bending bristles to make some interesting hook picks I would think.

Thanks for showing us your picks.

Ok so I was a little busy this whole time, but I managed to get a few more picks done. I went around a parking lot stealing wiper blades for tension wrenches. Just kidding. I had to drive an hour to get to the auto wrecker. Anyways I ended up with quite a few wiper blade inserts. I have tested one and they make excellent tension wrenches. I will post some new pictures today.

Ok time for new pics (and picks as well ! :) ). Enjoy, let me know what you think. Keep in mind I did not do the final sanding on them yet. I'm going to do it all at once when all picks are done.

Thanks guys! What's a custom bogota style case? As far as selling them goes, I am way too busy at the moment. Maybe in the future  .
