did i brake this lock?

so im trying to pick this slagie f i dont know how to spell. but whatever that one name of lock is and anyway!

i was picking at it last night and i know i got every pin but then i hear this. odd noise. i look at the first pick and its just sitting there, so i take my rake and try to get it. only to realize that there is apsolutely nothing pushing the pin down.

so i turned the lock upside down and low and behold the first pin just falls down.

so do i need it repinned?

If you turn the lock upside down without any tools in it and the pin falls down on its own, then there is undoubtedly something wrong with the spring in that pin stack.

Actually as long as you still had some tension on it thats was supposed to happen. Remember you are basically trying to catch the top pin at the sheer line, once you do there is nothing pushing on the bottom pin other then gravity. Jgor was saying if once the tension is released if that still happens then something is wrong, but if its during picking thats whats supposed to happen.

open and close the lock, if it works fine, then i would say there is no problem, as long as it works. . .
if it doesn't open, well there is obviously a problem

Actually, for some reason I have heard of locks having one pin stack without a spring, it keeps them from operating upside down. Why you wouldnt want a lock to work upside down I dont know....
