Masterlock 605 Trailer

Postby scoob » 28 Oct 2007 17:45

I stumbled on this forum to ask you guys a question, since you definitely seem like the right bunch.
I have a 6' X 10' trailer with a Masterlock 605 pin and tumbler lock on it. The keys are lost and have been lost for months now. Winter is comming so I have to use it again.

I went on the masterlock website and it said that the lock resists picking. Is it possible to pick? I either want to do it myself or just make sure a locksmith can before he charges me the money to come out. Thanks so much guys

Yes a locksmith could get it off, if you dont know much about picking allready, and you want to get it off in a hurry, that would be the best way to go.

Think which is cheaper: bolt cutters and a new lock or the said locksmith.

If one can get bolt cutters in one of those little rectangular suckers all is well... 45-50 for boltcutters and 10$ for another lock or so. Most locksmiths (myself included) worth their salt would have no trouble impressioning a key for that lock, maybe 10-15 min at most? There is a chance it has a cruel bitting and security pins, other things that will hamper picking and impressioning (I've impressioned a few before but I don't have one at my disposal right now). if you can get a low service charge with 5$ or so to pick, 50$ would be about right for a call in my area that is local to our shop and done at our convenience. You might also be able to unbolt the trailer hitch itself and bring it to a lock shop, then its would be 10$ or so in my area.

Bolt cutters sound like a great idea.... alot cheaper if you got access to a pair than if you were to get a locksmith out.
