I'm not sure what sort of counter offer to submit. It's in a fairly good conditions.

Any idea?

I have been looking at a few. Have seen several machines on craigslist in the $900-$950 range.

Hope that helps

The price on a Blitz can vary depending on what version you have. The base model doesn't come with anything, not even a cutter. The Original comes with 2 cutters, 150 code cards and some accessories. The Extreme comes with even more stuff. Here's a link with a list of what the different models include:

http://www.hpcworld.com/KeyMachines/1200cmb.htm

I've seen them selling new for as high as $4000 for an Original but that's kind of insane. My supplier's regular price is $2150 for the base model, or $2350 for the Original. I lucked out and managed to buy an Original when it went on sale briefly for $1700 (US) a couple of years ago. The current models are 2nd generation machines, so they have the safety cutoff switch on the shoulder gauge and has a coarser thread pitch on the adjustment knobs which can make cutting a bit quicker and reduces the possibility of damaging the threads from over-tightening. If you're looking at a 1st gen machine it would be worth a bit less. Spare cutters generally run from $45 to $145. These are all new prices but hopefully it gives you a bit more frame of reference when making an offer on a used one.

The first one was the one I have seen on there for several weeks. The seller might take even less if they are motivated to sell.

If buying used, your best bet is to be sure you can try the machine before buying. You need to find one in your area that is not to far of a drive to get to.

I have been down the second hand road and sometimes you save alot of $$$ and get a great machine. Other times you just buy someone elses problems which happens to me fairly frequently.

If you can find an old machine, pre blitz, you can save alot of $$$ and end up with a good machine. If you find an old pre blitz machine you can buy all the pieces you need to make it a blitz. I am not sure what all that entails, but I know the pre blitz machines did not have deburring brushes so that is a definate must have.

Good luck! Too bad you were not a few months earlier in your search as I was selling mine for around 900 with 5 cutting wheels etc. I have since decided to keep it though.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
