handles

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

on lockpicktools, you have the opportunity to buy some rippled handles,

I was wondering if that was necessary, or just for style, or ergonomically good

anyone who had worked with them???

They feel more substantial in your hands. They take some of the sensitivity of feeling the pins away, but i believe they add some life to your pick. I prefer anything that is more substantial.

I've got some with rippled handles. I didn't order them that way I think someone reached into the wrong bin. Oh well.

I really don't like them. I ended up with both styles, the one with the open core and the one with the closed core (whatever they call them).

Very uncomfortable to me. I like plain old laminated flat steel handles.

They look extremely ugly to me. Never tried them but looks like something a el cheapo eBay store would auction off if it was allowed.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

I prefer the plastic handles on Rytan picks. Especially when it's cold. I put my pick case on the defrost vent and get them toasty warm since I pick sans gloves, even below 0. On my home-made ones, I like a round wood dowel handle 1/4"-3/8" and epoxy them in. I work on a lot of boats as well, so it's handy they float.
Don't believe everything you think.
