Re-finishing your picks?

Ok, so i'm thinking to myself that I know something about lockpicking. I can pick your average lock and i've invested a great deal of $$ on getting the picks that I think are going to provide me with the level of performance i think i need to be perfoming at. So picking locks is what i do.......

However, much like a car which requires regular care, are my tools just as susceptable? Should there be a reason to renew the finish on them from time to time? Perhaps resanding them with 0000 grade steel wool? These things I have suddenly began to ponder in my neverending quest to assimilate the much needed knowledge to make me a better lock picking specialist.

Very good test: Take a piece of toilet paper or something similar, fold it over your pick and "rake" your pick in there. If the paper gets cut, your pick is in need of sanding

I would think that if the picks are sanded to a "perfect" condition and then used extensively, you would only need some finishing touches from time to time, like steel wool or 1000 grit sandpaper.
