I butchered that double cylinder union lock i had last night because my new picks should be arriving this week, and i want to get the hang of lifting the pins.

Least it gives me a nice visual guide showing me what movement i make with the pick translates into the pin.

Took the best part of 3 hours with only a hacksaw + file lol

You might notice the screws in the top, I thought i would do this instead of replacing the plugs i punched out, so if i decide to dismantle it, i can, without problems.

There's also a half cut circlip on the back of the plug with a grub screw holding it, so just unscrew the grub and the plug can come out too :)

(I'm looking for a suitable lock myself)

How has it progressed since your first post?
Can you see below the searline yet?

Wow, i wouldn't say you have "butchered" it. That is some quality work! Very strait, and I really like the idea you had with those screws on top. I think I will start utilizing that technique in the future. Nice job!

Have you actualy had a go at picking it while cut away? do you have any problems with the top pins flying out from the spring presure?

Nice job looks good. I got one suggestion. I made one like that and the springs keep popping out , so the next one I did not file down so far, that left a little bit more holding the spring. Keep up the good work

That looks awesome! Nice work with the screws, too.
It's not a question of "if", but merely "when."

I tired cutting one last night myself.. As you can see i have two started cuts going horizontal because at first i was going to try like you did but instead i decided to just cut out part of the lock and then cut 6 cut aways in it.

Thanks for the replies guys!

It really is a terrible looking cutaway though, but like was said....it is 100% functional & still just the same to pick as before being cutaway (still have the other side uncut)

None of the pins or springs pop out, no matter how violent you are with it, or how high you lift the pins.

I'm currently working on an Abus padlock cutaway (there's a guide in this forum for it with pictures). Should be ready by Thursday :D

Will post pics & info then ;)
