Step up from a Kwikset

Postby logosys » 21 Jun 2004 11:13

Ok, I'm getting to the point where I can pretty handily nail this Kwikset, and was wondering what lock I should step up to next. Any suggestions?

Rearrange the pins in the Kwikset you got. You could then try a Schalge for more of a challenge. Varjeal sells a very nice kit at an extremely reasonable price.

Yeah, I've rearranged the Kwikset's pinsa few times (high-low-high configurations are little bastards...). Schlage it is!

Mountain Security deadbolts aren't to bad. There are a couple of spools and if you get the double cylinder deadbolt you can rearrange the pins for up to four spools. Plus they are pretty good price. Around here they are a couple dollars less than Kwiksets.

If there's one thing I've gained from this site it's the extent to which my knowledge of US locks has expanded.

I originally thought: Kwikset, Schlage, Master etc... WTF? Now I just get used to it after seeing US brand names on the forum every day.

Off topic a bit but as far as I'm aware Kwikset, Schlage, Medeco don't exist in the UK & I have never seen any of them, anyone know anything different to this?

Medeco is sold by Assa-Abloy, so there is a decent chance that you may be able to get one in the UK. But, Kwikset, I dont know. They really are poorly made locks. I don't know why Black and Decker would bother to export them.
