DE

Postby raimundo » 7 Nov 2007 9:45

DE is not a big secret. theres a million ways and someone who is into DE will find something handy to do it with, big rocks will eventually suceed.
you could drill down into the core at the center of the lock, and then use a countersink bit to wident this out to take off the flange that holds the pins in, then remove all the pins and it is sort of open, you still have to turn it perhaps with and easyout. (screw removal tool) this will mean that all the destruction is applied to the lock and not carried over into the cabinet.
now that last line is the difference between a locksmith and a smash and grab type. Even when some destruction is called for, its done in a way that can be repaired, DE criminals don't have this mindset, and for them its all long prybars and big hammers.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

I totally understand that DE is appropriate for professionals, and there's plenty of discussion about it in the Advanced section. Clearly there are all kinds of ways of destroying locks to bypass them - it's just the more refined techniques that might tempt some of the site's readers. The criminal wants the job over just as fast as (or faster than) the locksmith.

Thank you MBI

I agree with you entirely Gordon Airporte. There is a place and time for revealing certain secrets, but as mentioned previously, I think the average criminal would just use a screwdriver to pop it open. Heck, I've seen it. The only time I've ever seen a lock drilled out (due to the fact that it is much too time consuming, noisy and obvious for the "Ill of willed") is by a professional of some type. I've done it myself for my elderly neighbor who locked herself out of her house.

Of course, there are many other sites that I will not mention that reveal plenty of other tactics on bypassing lock mechanisms; with video.

One of these particular sites was what got me into lock picking (and possibly locksmithing) as a hobby. A few years ago, I was perusing the net and found exactly how to "bump" a lock. I was curious, so I tried it. Let me tell you, if a novice like I can succeed at this, anyone can do it. It got me very scared. So I started applying this technique to every lock in the house and over the course of two days (had to make the keys for various keyways) I had opened every lock in the house! I was not happy.

This is pretty much what drove me to become passionate about lockpicking. If I can find a glitch in the system, anyone can. I'd like to know more so I can rectify the situation prior to a minor or major loss. I do not want this to happen to anyone! It is not fair!

Again, I apologize for anything I may have revealed when it comes to professional secrets. I merely asked for advice on a particular job and I now have an answer: I'll have to go the DE route anyways. It took me nearly 45 minutes to pick the benched cabinet. After a bit of practice I was able to open it in 25. I sure as heck can't spend that much time on one lock. I simply do not have that much time for what should be a simple job.

I thank you all for your assistance. But sometimes secrets aren't really secrets at all. And other times secrets are right in front of your eyes.

That is why I severely limit the detail I go into with some of my explanations.
Some of the time, simply using proper terminology is enough to throw off all but the 1% of criminals (white collar) and they usually don't dirty their hands with something they cant do with what they have, or what they can steal.

Believe me, I belong to a few professional locksmithing associations who definitely would NOT be pleased by anything I have ever said here, should I release my name... oh, btw I forgot about a tool that works fairly well for this particular locksmithing feat, the inventor's name is Frank Markisello and most locksmiths know of his stuff.

Btw for all you criminals out there I have a secret, if you have a giant pry bar, you can use the power of leverage to use a very long pry bar to break... well just about anything! really, simply use Hooke's law to determine how much you can bend it to get things the way you need them.

Any person with a graduate level engineering or physics degree should be able to break into just about anything they want to with a little engineering knowledge.(in theory)
Society creates the crime, the criminal completes it

I just tried 2 opening two different aceII locks with my southord 7 pin lock pick on 2 of my vending machines. A gatorade one, and a coke one both quite old. Neither would budge.
