My first picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

My first picks

Postby therealmuffinman » 6 Nov 2007 23:56

like the title says, i made my very first picks. I made them out of windshield wiper blades ( i had to buy a windshield wiper blade because my local auto repair shop and gas stations and car washes, get rid of the used ones right away) i have to make the tension wrench a little bit thinner in order to fit into locks and i need to polish both of them but besides that what do you guys think? Wow, those look pretty good. :) I would argue that you bought that tensioner instead of made it. Very nice.

The feeler looks a bit short though. You don't have problems picking deeper locks? Also, I would add a handle or something to make it a bit thicker where you hold it. that way it won't be slippling/twisting out of your hand. But, if it works now, good.

I hope you make some more. You got good craftmanship.

thank you, i am going to extend the feeler because you are right it is a bit short. the tension wrench was easy to make using 2 pliers and cold bending. and i am going to make a the other 3 pieces to the set later on today or on friday. any more comments critique?

The hook looks great, appears like a deep access hook and a nice spot to rest the finger for feedback.

Among the nicest first's I have seen.

well done :)

Very nice looking Sse you have there,. Keep up the good work.

Since you seem to have the pick down maybe consider some handle design now?

Very nice! Perhaps you could make a few picks double ended perhaps maybe a hook and a half diamond with some heat shrink inbetween...just an idea? Just don't make any filing points too thin as i made that mistake and had a few picks snap...not through abuse...just regular usage.
