How do I dismantle this lock?

Postby possamai » 7 Feb 2004 9:15

Hi,

I just started lockpicking..
I allready picked an old 4pin Abus padlock a zilion times, so I bought a few new ones.. 3 the same padlocks (different keys offcourse)
But I can't open any of them..

I'm just starting so It's not really a mirracle that I cannot open them, but since they're all three of the same brand and size I thought I'd open one up so I can see how it works and maybe find out why I can't pick them (spool drivers maybe or some other tricky thing)

But I can't find a way to open them :(
it's not like they're very expensive, the abus locks that were sold in the same store were more expensive, I bought to cheapest since it's for beginner practice anyways..

But I don't know this brand..

the fron of the lock says "Tri-Circle 264 Made in china" and the back of the lock has a sign of the olympics...
Doesn't mean a thing to me,
But does anyone here know how to take one appart?

I cannot put anthing between the pins I think because there's a small kind of border on the bas of the lock so I cannot put anthing in there while the pins are on the shear line....

I have the key though, so there's no problem with getting the pins on the right position....

All help is appriciated
TIA

That it?

The Olympic symbol has five rings, not three... but regardless, I'm pretty sure that you're going to need a hacksaw (at minimum) to take that thing apart. I've played with something very similar, but I don't have one in front of me, so I'm not POSITIVE.

Yeah. Hacksaw, sledge hammer, grinder, serious prybar, something like that.

Again, though, I don't have one in front of me.

The tri-circle 264 is picable I was given one a while a go and had trouble with it foe a while (a long while) but managed it in the end, I seemed to need a lot more tension than for other locks.

I've got a 265, 6 pin model, which I bought while in the UK. When I returned home, I was very dissapointed. 10 seconds and it popped open.

$10 says its just as take-apartable as any other solid brass lock

Read the post "Non-destructive disassembly of padlocks" in the Pick-Fu forums

there is a dissassembly guide for this exact lock in another forum!!
i cant seem to find it right now, but just look around and im sure you will find it!! it involves drilling a few small holes and prying with a screw!! it is a very easy lock to get into!!
good luck
