Hi mate,

Haven't used lockpickshop.com yet but have used lockpicks.com and highly recomend them (postage took about a week). They post to QLD no worries so you should be ok in WA. This is the kit I started with and found it to be great

If you really want to order from lockpickshop.com I dont think u will have any trouble. There has been alot of talk about shipping lock picks to Aus and so far I haven't read anything about customs seizing items.

If you're interested in a jackknife style pickset, I would recommend the one from lockpicktools.com. That being said, you shouldn't start with a jackknife set. You will get more feedback and generally learn more by using a standard set.

I cant comment from personal experience on the jackknife pickset but from what I have heard from others that have started picking with the jackknife they regreted it and opted to go for the coventional picks. A jack knife set might be ok for a fit of fun but I dont think it could compare to the feel you get from normal picks. Stick with a nice simple set of South Ord picks or similar for your first set and then move onto some of the fancy stuff later if your still keen. Just my opinion.

I agree with jgor; I wouldn’t recommend a jack knife pick set to a beginner. I think these types of sets have their place, but it’s not in learning how to pick. They tend to be a bit wobbly and don’t provide as much feedback as regular picks. Jack knife picks are a convenient size and so I usually carry one for emergencies, but I always prefer to use regular picks if I have them available. If you’re determined to get a jack knife pick set, I’ve tried both of the jack knife sets made by SouthOrd and between their two models I’d definitely go with the steel one over the fiberglass one. I’m intrigued by the FPS-7 set from lockpicktools.com but haven’t tried one yet.

On a regular pick set, I’d recommend getting a set with reinforced handles. I find them a lot more comfortable than the thin picks that are just stamped from a single piece of metal. To show you what I mean, the first picture below is a one-piece pick, the second one has a reinforced handle. Some handles are riveted (like the one in the lower pic), some are welded like the SouthOrd picks, either type seems to work fine.

you wont be able to bank deposit to those i dont think but lockpicks.com does take money order from what i can remember. You best option is to sign up for paypal, alot of sites accept it now and I find it the best way to pay for stuff over the net.

Nah mate if your just starting off you shouldn't need any slime line picks. All the locks I have been playing with (mainly lockwood and master locks) have pretty open keyways and normal picks work fine.

One lockwood padlock I have uses a para-centric keyway in which case a slim line pick might be a bit easier but I get on OK with the standard south ord picks. I have a few slim lines but I prefer the standard picks, just my opinion tho.

I ordered the MPXS14 from lockpickshop.com and got it 12 days later, paid with PayPal.

I'm real happy with it, though I do tend to use my homebrew picks just as much.

This one isn't that hard to figure out is it? Obviously you wont be using the one that says Canada only. If you want the cheapest option the choose global priority mail (outside canada). EMS Int'l Express Mail will get there faster but costs more. UPS EXPRESS will get there really really fast but is really really expensive.
