I'm a little pissed off about the negative reactions I get, so I'm ready to fight-the-man(tm) should the need arise. However, you have a point and we need to be careful. We are not affiliated with any university, etc.. and thus have much less protection should the fear machine put us in its sights.

PS#2: Report about last weeks happenings and a possible meeting this week is on the way.

I have a very opposing views when compared to rai. I think you should do the exact opposite, and tell the world. Locksport is coming! Plus, low key is not what we are about, we are about making ourselves known, educating the public, and making a positive impact in the community. We can't do that in a low key way!

Alright fine I'll write about it
I arrived a little early and decided to have a seat at the bar. I had all sorts of lock stuff with me, so naturally I started picking. After a brief period of time, I glanced over to see every one of the old regulars staring at me. I had Emrys' S&G 831 in front of me at the time and one of them asked "Are making a bomb?". I started explaining what in the world I was doing and was interrupted by a couple yelling things like "If you try an pick into ma house, I kill ya butt". By the way, the language filter here does not allow the massive number of expletives in these comments. A while later a few came over and I taught them how it worked, but they were unable to open the easiest lock I could easily (Master #5 as I recall).
Later Emrys and his younger brother showed up. We all found a table and started picking/discussing. Cryptonic couldn't make it and my co-worker flaked out. The next time he saw me, he explained why without my prompting, so there's a good chance he'll make it next time. We did a lot of talking SFICs and I explained why I thought shimming an i-core wrench was a bad idea. Emrys picked a Corbin-Russwin 6 pin of mine that I have been unable to open for months. He also pointed out that relocking a Corbin Emhart after picking could be made easier be turning the cylinder upside-down. We talked about L.I briefly and the prospect of reaching out the public and were in favor.
As we left, I borrowed Emrys' 831 again and he borrowed my 6-pin Medeco Biaxial. I hope his brother had a good time, he got a little frustrated at times. Most of the lock he was picking were my Master padlocks and they are not the most reliable parts of my collection. Some of them my be broken or rusted for example.
If Emrys found a good place on the Norfolk side of the water (he mentioned one as I recall), I'd like to meet there next. It would save him some time/gas and give us another meeting place option. Cryptonic, Emrys, anyone else; if you guys are down, l can meet again on Saturday (22NOV07). Just name the place and time

Dag nabbit, my bad; I put today's date (happy thanksgiving). I meant to say this Saturday (24NOV07). If we do not have another place that you guys would suggest by tomorrow night, I'll put up the info for Bennigan's again (unless Emrys was liking that Irish pub more).

Unless anyone objects, I'm up for skipping this week's meeting. I can't get ahold of my potential attendees and it sounds like cryptonic will likely not make it. I'd like to meet next week, however. Let me know what you guys think.
PS: No doug, we are not dissolving

Well, our latest meeting has proved to be the most useful for me thus far. I'm very excited to share that, with a bit of coaching from JK_the_CJer, I managed to pick a Medeco Biaxial for the first time I have to give much credit to JK for the help, because I don't think I would have gotten it open without him teaching me what to feel for. But, now that I have the feel for it, I can start improving my feel for Medecos and consistency with them.
I also got to see JK's latest breakthrough...which....I don't know if I'm allowed to discuss here or not. But, if JK feels like elaborating, it's quite a nifty tool.

Emrys picking the Biaxial was awesome and definitely the highlight of the evening. We also did some brainstorming about how the Kwikset SmartKey works (neither of us have done much research into it yet), and tried picking it a bit. We will be meeting again this upcoming Saturday (08DEC07) at Bennigan's (unless we find a better place) and I'll be placing a craigslist ad inviting folks to come out. Emrys: Just to clarify; that tool is...advanced forums material to say the least

Saturday sounds good. I'll see who I can find. I can't wait until my ship pulls in 'cuz I know a few guys that would like to come out with us.
I still haven't picked up one of those Kwikset smartkeys yet. I think I might do that today.
