I'm Sleeping On The Floor Tonight

Postby homeless » 2 Dec 2007 18:36

I've had a minor mishap with my door today, which unfortunately ended in me being locked out of my room.

The lock is a standard yale type lock produced by ERA.

The problem appears to be that the deadlocking snib has activated meaning that I can no longer open the door, even with my key.

Is there anyway I can bypass this without destroying the lock or door?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A) sleep on your friends sofa whos computer your using.
B) go to an all night bar and have some fun then call a locksmith in the morning.
C) call an all night locksmith 118118 will give you a number

I am in a student house watching 'Batman Returns' on E4+1 and on the internet on my housemate's laptop.

I would very much like to get into my own room as all I have are the clothes I'm wearing and a towel.

I can't go to an all night bar as my wallet is in my locked room.

Is there any way to actually get into my room without a locksmith and if I need one will he be able to get in without damaging the lock/door?

PS. I am a poor student and I would rather not pay for a locksmith.

How much is it likely to cost then for a locksmith to unlock my room?

That depends on the locksmith, but not cheap this time of night :(

Is there no other means of entry such as a window?

After thought ...... call the landlord and see if he/she has had to gain entry before or if they can sort it for you

ask around, see if any of your friends have a ladder that can reach the window.

At least you have your towel. Ford and Arthur would be proud.

It's from the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Basically, if you are hitchhiking your way across the galaxy, probably the three most important things you could bring are: your copy of the guide, an electronic thumb (for hitching rides from passing spaceships), and your towel. Some might even argue that the towel is the single most important thing.

If you want examples of why the towel is important, you'll just have to read the books. I won't spoil it by explaining here. Plus, I'd probably screw it up since I'm not that funny.

Towlie says, "Don't forget to bring a towel!"
"Lockpicking is what robbing is all about!" says Jim King.
