Hello all, I'm just wondering what this small hole is? The hole that is at the bottom of the key way. Any importance?

if your talking about padlocks it's just a drainage hole, don't go sticking pins/paperclips in there!

if not padlocks give a bit more info or a pic.

I've done it. Back in elementary school someone told me that there was a secret button in there you can push for emergencies to pop it open without the key. Wasted my snack money on a big pack of paper clips that day and went home hungry.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

dottedquad, it just lets rainwater/dirt drain from the lock, no harm done.

Rain gets in the lock and if it dosent drain, then when the temp freezes it will make the lock impossible to open with the key, until you put a propane torch on it for a few seconds.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
