Ugh Jammed my abus extra clasic

Postby LockNewbie21 » 2 Dec 2007 22:19

Okay let me try and give the best description.

It's the Abus Extra Plus as seen on there web site.

So, here the question. when removing the plug I turned it slightly and now it is jammed but wiggels in and out a bit.

The key is now stuck in a 180 standstill, holding the cylinder upright (opposite of mounting on a door) the warding opening is on the bottom and the non nope [art is facing vertical.

So basically I am at a loss, I still think it's those passive pins like in my winkhaus.

However, I would apprecaite any help from lockies who are familiar with this lock.

If you need a picture let me know, untill the I wil try and get a shim down the main tumblers on the top.

I also removed the other side by grinding down the key (this one you can only turn on side), and removing the other plug so yea.. I am pretty much lost.

Dang these german locks, love them for dificulty but one false move and boom.. jam on ya :)

Any help appreciated.

when i did this i filed down the top of where the springs are and got them out manually like that and then i taped over the holes after re-assembling the lock. if you do not want to destroy the lock i have no idea sorry.

No kidding man. Both of the euro cylinders I ordered off of ebay this year either got lost or stolen while it was being sent.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

I might be really off topic, but atleast my Abus Plus is a disc lock.

I once did this with an Abus XP2. ewarwoowar's solution seems the best one to me - carefully file off the bottom to remove the springs.
And next time, dont move the core out qhile it's at 180 degrees ;)

There is no such thing as an "Abus Classic", you probably mean Abloy Classic, which is a disc lock. There also is no lock named "Abus Extra Plus", there is an "Abus Plus" (also a disc lock). But I think the thread starter meant the "Abus Extra Classe" (or EC), which is a dimple-key-lock (see http://www.abus.de/us/main.asp?ScreenLang=us&artikel=4003318158056).
As you can see from the drawing, the lower pins (Euopean view) are active, the upper pins are passive.
if not all of the dimple holes are filled with passive pins and you turn the plug by 180 degrees and pull it out, the spirngs can press the driver pins into the chambers of the passive pins.

Oh, an alternative you could try is get a piece of hard wood and slam the cylinder on it while giving light tension onto the plug. If you're lucky you can turn the plug and don't have to file the bottom off.

Good luck!

By the way, the Abus Extra Classe (or Abus EC) is technically identical to the Cisa Astral:

Newbie if this is the 850 then the passive pins are offset forard or backwards. if its out by about 2mm and stuck at 180 chancesare the pinstacks are in these.

unfortunately out of the 6 or 7 possible passive pins in this lock they only use 4 of the chambers at random so if the stacks have dropped in to these the drivers will be in the chambers with no key pins to push them up with.

I have one side of mine in bits and ill try and get some pictures to help you out. if it really is fubar ill see if i can track you down another one.

All the best

Thanks again John, I have a bit of christmas money saved I was going to ask if oyu had anymore to sell.

Yes the lock is a an Abus Extra Classic, It is a Dimple lock and I think what Jackno said is apparent.

I have tried to shim the lock, but can't can't access the back fo the plug well.. and am still working on this.

Apprecaite all the input fella's.
