A newbie's tale of Pick-Fu

The Scorpion with 5 Stingers -An ancient Kung Fu legend
(previously seen as "the n00b that didn't know where to start")
To be read in your best kung-fu movie voiceover / Master Splinter voice.


Long ago in a land of mist and myth was a brave young warrior. He sought to sharpen his skills so that he could one day slay the giant scorpion with the 5 deadly stingers that had vexed his village since the time before time.

He knew that many, many brave men had gone before him, only to lose the final battle to the scorpion.
Not wishing the same fate, he sought the advice of a wise and ancient teacher high in the mountains.
When he has finished the long climb up the steep, frigid mountain, he approached the sage and asked him for his advice.
"Most honorable teacher, I have come to seek your guidance in doing battle with the scorpion with 5 stingers."

"The scorpion is most feared because of his 5 stingers." replied the wise one.
"Imagine, in your mind's eye -what if the scorpion had but 1 stinger, and not 5?" the wise one asked the student.

The student puzzled over the new scenario.

The student said "If the scorpion had but 1 stinger, surely he would be easier to defeat."

"You have answered wisely, young one. When you can defeat a scorpion with only 1 stinger, then you will be ready to do battle with a scorpion with 2 stingers. If you prove yourself able to defeat the beast with 2 stingers, then -and only then- will you be ready to face a scorpion with 3 stingers."

The student knew his path was now clearly laid out before him, he had only to follow it

im pretty sure hes talking about learning to pick 5 pin lock and he will start with 1 pin then 2 pins so on.

Thanks for all the kind words. Truth be told- I've never heard of the Scorpion lock...
I was just trying to say thanks for the info on starting with just one pinstack in a new lock. It really makes all the difference in the world.
It also benefits you on 2 levels. First, it increases your familiarity with that specific lock, and locks in general, and once you go down to just one pinstack, the lock isn't as intimidating.
When you can defeat a lock with an easy pin set of 1 pin, it makes the other pins seem easier too.

Heck, when I started years ago, all ya needed in my line of work was a good pickset and an occasional Force tool. Things have really changed.

Now I just tow with the tow truck, and Pick for the fun of picking.
If all else fails, My flated is the pickset....... Just load and go
