Is that a good pick set to start of with?

Hey Noxious584 - welcome to Lockpicking 101!

That is a fine set, but remember that your lockpick "set" isn't a set. It is the collection of tools that you use. You will surely buy other picks and tools. And they need to be stored in a case.

Unless you never plan on buying additional tools, I would buy a better case than the one offered in this set. This particular case is very tight and will only allow you to store a few additional picks in it.

I would strongly recommend that you obtain a more expansive case.

I offered to give one away here a couple of weeks ago by offering it in the for sale forum but was rejected because I needed to have been a member for 6 more days. I ended up throwing it away.

Anyways, get a better case!

That is a perfect starter "pick set"

As for a better case, if you do decide to turn this into a full blown locksport hobby I recommend the Peterson bi-fold or maybe even the tri-fold case. The tri-fold is what I use and even though I thought it was already full I still manage to squeeze more tools in there.

I have about 29 different picks and 10 tension wrenches in my set, with still more plans to expand.

Here's the link to the cases I'm talking about. These are the best in the market IMO. http://peterson-international.com/pickc ... tm#bi-fold
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Thanks for the fast reply.

So what I got out of that was, they are good picks to start out with but the case needs to be made out of a better and sturdier material.

Thanks for the info it was well appreciated,

I have the C1510 which is the same tools but with all metal handles. I've added a few more tension wrenches since, but other than the case (as already mentioned above) which isn't up to much I'm happy with it.

Not better and sturdier - bigger. The case that comes with that set is so small and tight that you will only be able to store a few more tools in it.

The stand-alone cases are expensive to buy ($20 for the next bigger case). So I recommend buying a set like the SouthOrd PXS-14 for your initial set because it comes with the larger case that opens up like a book with a perimeter zipper instead of a single-flap snap case.

Yes, but I would recommend the Peterson city kit as the best starter kit for any hobbyist. It is nearly the same price and contains higher quality picks that will last a very long time.
