hi,

forgive me if this is inappropriate or disallowed, but i was wondering if i could be recommended a locksmith in london? i've been reading your posts and despite the name of your site, (some of?) you seem to be reputable professionals!

there are signs of attempted forced entry on my front door and my landlord has agreed to have a new and better lock fitted (and i also want hinge bolts too).

so, can you recommend yourself / someone? a good brand of rim / latch lock? one final caveat, you must be approved by the MLA.

thanks!

Well im based in london but it depends on what part of london you actually live in as to if i can help.

Im not mla approved, why do you require someone who is a member of the mla ?
I am a member of the institute of certified locksmiths though of whom many of our members have joined from the mla.

To be honest not many mla members come and post on this site due to the mla's restriction on information given out to the public by their members code of conduct. It is mainly a hobbiest site in essence.

http://www.theinstituteofcertifiedlocksmiths.org this link may be of use as many a good member of the icl is in london.

If not try the mla site directly for their listings of mla locksmiths

thanks for responding, toomush. :D

i stipulated the MLA because i came across their website and they said their members are fully vetted. perhaps you can understand that your job puts you in quite a powerful position, as i am forced to place an uncomfortably large amount of trust in a stranger. the vetting of the members makes that a little easier for me to do.

i did look at the mla's listings, but they all seemed a little too business orientated and unlikely to be interested in what i want, hence me posting here...

however, i see the ICL members are vetted as well, so that's fine too! :D

i am in north london - is that out of your range?

Well im unable to help as i dont cover your area but many other locksmiths do. I find it unusual you can say a company seems too business orientated, i just see it as a professional image.

Your type of job is a pretty average bread and butter job for most.

I would concentrate on getting a london bar fitted to reinforce the frame as this is what gives in most forced attempts.Hinge bolts work well on outwards opening doors but a birmingham bar on the hinge side offers far greater protection than hinge bolts on an inward opening door.
Also it may be worth considering a lock guard around the mortice lock to beef things up further.
Other options include fitting an anti jemmy strip down the edge of the door or fitting a powder coated steel sheet over the entire door.
The ultimate protection is a steel security gate which keeps out 95% of baddies. :D

good luck
