Postby zikmik » 11 Jan 2008 9:53

Hi,
I find this nice old roll closet with eight lever lock and I wonder what is easiest way to pick it?

All you need is two symetrically wire pieces.

This is a two hand job but I use one to make a photo.

or even standard tension wrenches. These locks are often found on roll top desks and are the easiest locks to open.

Mostly because you can just shim the latch.

you sure it is 8 lever??

In my opinion it looks like 2 or 3 levers - key is cut like that to enable either way up entry and give impression of being a tougher lock that it really is.

but what do i know? Have you taken lock off to see internals - be nice to see a picture.

I am new with a lot of technical terms so I look at google

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&q=%22eight+lever%22+lock

and I get impression that 8 lever is name for that kind of locks but now when you ask, I find that it is actualy 3 lever double bit lock

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&q=%22double+bit%22+key

My mistake! :(

with the size of that keyway, it looks like you could use a spatula!
