Postby Oky » 13 Jan 2008 5:52

Hi

First time poster so take it easy on me please ;)

Hope I'm posting in the correct forum

But I was just wandering if anyone here knows where/how i can find/make

If its the making option, anywhere i can possibly find a template and/or the dimensions of the wrench?

I cant remember the site that sells them off the top of my head but all i have heard are bad things. you have to buy it as part of a set that if i remember is over priced for what it is.

Is the site that sells these tension wrenches and as JackNco said, they are overpriced....I suggest making your own, maybe from feeler gauges.

I had a look at that ideacreations site - yeh looks overpriced cause it only comes with a package

Thanks for the template as well...

I was thinking of maybe using a tweezer with some wire tied around it for strength lol..

Is this any good? I've never used one myself, I just have the the 7 and 8 pin picks.

well you have to repick the lock with every 7th/8th of a turn. i'm told it slips a lot and to be honest the cheap locks can be opened in better ways like impressioning.

lock or key

Postby raimundo » 1 Feb 2008 11:27

alterantively, you could reverse engineer it from a lock or a key, the dimensions are there, you just have to know how to use them, do not make the cut as wide as the stem, but make it so that it catches the stem at a point between the 3 and 4 pin, that is almost but not completely halfway around the diameter, If you look into the inside of the key, measure the distance from the edge of the stempickup to the opposite inner wall, and make sure that the cut you make in the metal is less than this dimension by a bit. The tool pictured has a certain standoff above the end of the stem, you pay for every bit of standoff you put on it by having the additional problem of keeping it perpendicular to the stem while torque ing, You could design a better one by making it fit flat against the face of the lock and even having a part that bends out 90 degrees to brace against the face of the lock. Equally, you could modify a flat screwdriver to hold straight into the lock and tork it, so that your torque is held perpendicular while using it.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
