Master 1525 Help?

Postby gstrendkill » 15 Jan 2008 20:25

Yes I searched and only found one reference to this lock and it just said the name, no info was there

I have a Masterlock 1525. As you can see it's mine and not attached to any thing :).

Its a real pain to open because the plug feels like its free floating inside the lock. I have picked it once but other than that, no luck.

While messing around with it I found that I can bypass it with a hook pick into the locked position but i don't have a plug spinner so that doesn't do any good for now.

The key is called a control key (i googled the lock). I was going to order one offline. Is that anything like the sfic control keys? Because thats the only time I've ever heard that term.

Tips anyone?

There's always shims :P. Just out of curiosity, does the key open the lock or something or does it lock the gate in place so that you cannot open it up until you turn the plug to the unlocked position? It could be the pictures, but the keyway looks like a PITA.

I would say that if this was attached to something and you had to get it off, just use a shim (or the correct combination :P), but if you are just using it to get to know cylinder inside, then I can't help you there. I'm guessing it's the latter though considering that it isn't actually attached to something.

Perhaps the next post will be from someone who has more useful advice.

the key is so you don't have to know 97595 different combos if you have several of the same lock. a lot of schools use them.

and yea the keyway is really small. about a centimeter in diameter

the keyway is the same size as a master # 7 padlock which takes the M2 blank (ILCO 1092)
The keyblank is the exact opposite ... Ilco 1092R

generally a PIA to pick because of the small keyway ,not because of any special features like spool or serrated pins.
I have never seen one ,that the entire cylinder could be turned like that, my guess would be it is damaged in some way .
you should be able to determine the combo using any of the web published " secrets" to open master padlocks

Those little cylinders on the combo locks are super fun.. But if what you say is true about the bypass into the locked position, then your on to something pretty cool.
