Trouble finding rekeyable locks in the UK

Postby TechEd » 30 Jun 2004 7:23

Hi there everybody,

I get my first set of picks first morning but I am having a little trouble find a rekeyable lock.

I have tried homebase, no luck.

I have rang up 2 locksmiths in wiltshire. The first did know what the h*ll I was talking about. And the secound had heard of them but did not know where I could get one from.

Can anyone recommend some places where I could get one from?

Thanks

Really any cylinder you can buy in your local diy store is rekeyable. Just take it apart and place the pins back in a different order. The thing is that a lot of this forum is biased towards american style door knob handles with the barrel in the knob whereas over here in the uk we lean towards cylinders like yales etc with a deadlock mounted on the back of the door and a mortice fitted further down. Exceptions to this are upvc doors with the euro profiles which can be repinned but not as easily for a beginner.

If you do a search on the forum for "plug follower" or "taking apart a cylinder" you should find the information on this subject to guide you through it.

Cool thanks for the info,

How is the strike day going? They are not putting to much presure on you to drive more trains because of it.

Woohoo

Picked my first lock, a 5 pin (I think) Abus steel 41 but I think I killed my hand.
