how to re-lock a door?

Postby yellowbus1 » 18 Jan 2008 21:17

Hi, i was picking this drawer for fun, but it's my parent's private drawer. I thought i could easily lock it after I picked it but it turns out there's now way to lock it without the key. How can I re-lock it using a pick?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

First of all, we don't ever pick locks in use and never locks that don't belong to us.

Read some of the stickies and enjoy!

vrocco is right. it is not wise to pick locks that are in use and it is even less wise to pick one thats not yours if you dont have permission.
it can get you in a lot of trouble. im sure your parents wont prosecute you but other people will if your caught picking any other lock. iv heard of the home owners association fining people for picking locks on their own house that belong to them.
if caught at someone else's house, well im sure you dont want to go to jail...

You should throw out your picks. Right off the bat you broke our cardinal rules. Do not pick locks you do not own, do not pick locks you rely on. You should leave it open and admit to your parents what you did, and you need to ask yourself if you will be able to resist such urges in the future. Lockpicking is in a way a "power" With power comes responsibility. It does not matter if it is your parents "secret drawer" you comitted a crime. It was locked because what is in it belongs to your parents and is none of your business.

We pick locks for fun, just like you said. We DO NOT pick locks that do not belong to us. You need to read the sticky's and learn the rules. What you did was wrong. You need to live with the consequences. Why should we help you get out of trouble for doing something you know was wrong?

There is no editing of posts on this forum. Use the "Preview" button before you post to make sure it all looks good.

Words are censored so as to remove profanity (I love that word - "profane") LOL! as if people here would drop a stool because they read the word (here come all the lame substitutions for words every one of us here use every day but, for some reason, are censored) sh*t: shit, f*ck: , d*mn: , a*s: ass or b*tch: .

See how they cleverly substituted "road apples" for "sh*t" and "donkey" for "a*s" but simply censored f*ck, d*mn, a*s and b*tch? Weird, isn't it? It is like some sort of weird Taliban system. I've learned to laugh at it but just keep quiet and pretend all of us here are the only humans on the planet that don't use meaningless swear words.

As for your original post - DON'T pick locks that are in use! You could mess them up.

As for not being able to lock it - you should be able to pick it back the same way you picked it open. It won't automatically lock - you will need to pick it closed. It isn't like a padlock where you can just close the hasp and everything resets and locks. Just pick it in the other direction.

We are members of the locksport community. Picking locks is not well recieved by many people. We are trying to change their minds. We have oue version of the 10 commandments that we live by. When someone comes along and asks about breaking into something or picking locks that are in use we take it personally, and we preach. You are welcome to stay, please read and follow the rules.
