just read this sticky great info and instructions any 1 know where to get stainless stell inthe same dimentions I recon brass in to soft :?: :?:

Brass is quite hard and brittle. I think part of the reason for using brass is so you can silver solder it for really, really strong joints. I'm not sure how you would make joints that strong at that scale with steel.
I think when 2-in-1 picks break it tends to be at a solder point which wasn't well made, and not in the middle of any of the brass parts.

I agree that brass is plenty strong enough for 2 in 1 picks.

I'll give it a go and see what happens I can get all the gear 4 it from my local model shop 4 abt £7 so got to be worth a shot cheere for the replys

I'm not saying that it is always worth it, but I've made 2 in 1 picks and similar styles from solid material, w/o soldering, etc.

If you have a lathe to turn down your parts, it doesn't take too long to remove the excess material.

Still, soldering brass is plenty strong for most uses.

I made one out of brass for satety deposit boxes, it's quite small and is very strong. If you break it you aren't using it right to begin with. :)

I've only made them from solid when I needed very small parts, etc. Or, because it was slightly faster with access to machine tools. No reason that a soldered type will not work well.
