My name is Andrew and I just started trying to pick locks after taking apart a few i found. I have been using paper clips and longs sewing pins to attempt opening locks and they just dont give me the control i want so i decided to make my own. I'll just say i ended up with something looking close to....well they didnt look like anything i've ever seen before and they sure didnt open any locks. What i want to know is Do any of you know a site where there are printable templates that i could print, cut out, and glue to the metal so i have an easier time grinding? Well any info would help.

why not do a search click the search button and look around. I know i have posted access to my ftp site which contains pictures of picks laying beside a scale. these can be printed to scale and used for what you are wanting. I have posted the southord slim lines, hpc regal series, lab, petersons, and brockhage.

I've made some, they're not hard to make. Handles are 1/4 and inch. if you want them to be thicker (some do) just increase the width of the handle. PM me if you're interested and i'll give you more details.

What you made probably will work once you have some expereince with other tools. A good number of pictures can be found on www.southord.com Here you will get just general idea of shape and such. A search for 'GPL pictures ' will point you towards a thread with pictures of commercial picks with a ruler for scale. Many other members have wonderful pictures of their home made picks. Search for things like "my tools" or something similar.

"What I have" in the 'FAQ's and general information' section has a few samples, as does "Home brew pick set" in the (I think) 'Lockpicks-Manual' section.

I have tried gluing printed paper templates to the subject metal, but seeing as you have to dunk the pick regularly in water when grinding, The paper quickly loosens, the ink bleeds, and the paper quickly detaches its self from the metal. :(
The best lock pick is C4 followed by a sledge Hammer

Try making paper cut outs of the pick patterns. Glue them to the metal, then use a bit of spray paint or something similar to mark the metal.

Well if you glue the paper on the metal make sure you roughen up the surface of the metal to help it hold together. I have started making picks and what i do is lay the paper thats the shape and size of the pick on the metal then spray red paint on it and then pull the paper off and let it dry. Then i just carefully grind away the red parts. I just finished my first half diamond pick but i want to make a nicer handle so im trying to find something i can put on it.
