Slim pick dimensions?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Slim pick dimensions?

Postby hunter.england » 23 Jan 2008 6:33

Hi everyone. My first post (other than the hello one) so apologies if it in the wrong place. I'm going to take he bull by the horns and my my first set of tools. I am wondering how much difference there is between slim and standard? I will be using hacksaw blades initially (large and junior), will either of these need to be ground thinner for use i the UK (ie, slimline). Thanks in advance, i can't wait to make my first tool and pick my first lock!

I think I asked almost that same question a long time ago, I was told that slimline picks just have smaller profile but are the same thickness as normal picks. I have found that my hacksaw blade picks end up at about .022 inch thick after I sand them down. That seems to work fine for most locks that I deal with. I did make have to make some thinner .018 inch hacksaw blade picks for a few locks that had very narrow restricted keyways. I measured my basic Southord stainless set and it is .020 inch thick.
