How To Make A Sweet Pick Case!!!!

Postby zsoutendijk » 22 Jan 2008 19:24

In this tutorial ill show you how to make a sweet case for you picks.

Intro
1. Safety
2. Materials
3. Instructions

First of all, ill show you what some of these look like:

I think they are pretty good for me never sewing before.
These are both coffee stained… gives it a nice hazelnut smell.

1. Safety

Yes, SAFETY! …. You will be handling a very small needle that could potentially do all kinds of damage to your eyes and hands, so keep some band-aids handy (Trust Me!)

2. Materials

About a square yard of Canvas
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Thread
Needles
Pins
2 Ice-cream bucket tops or other thin plastic
about 2 feet of leather
BAND-AIDS!!!

You need to cut 2 pieces the exact same and 1 only the width should be the same.

I used:
2 – 10x6 (you could use 10x7… it doesn’t matter… depending on how tall you want it)
1 – 10x3

First sew about a ¼ in seam on the top of the small piece.

Then draw a line ½” in on either side and one halfway across the little piece.

Image

*don’t pay attention to my finger, that line comes later!

Pin the small piece to one of the big ones and sew the 3 lines you just drew.
Now draw more lines, up and down, these will be pockets for the picks:

¾’’ is perfect for hacksaw picks
½’’ is good for slim line and wiper insert blade picks

Sew your newly drawn lines.

Now you should have something that looks like this:

Now place the second large piece over this one, should have top to bottom (large, small, large)

Now you need to sew around the edges… NOT the top! Leave about an inch unsewn at the top… so you can fold it down later.

*keep close to the edges… probably about 1/8-1/4 an inch in.

Clip the corners and turn inside out…

Iron it down so the seams are even.

Sew the middle strait up where it will crease, until it is about an inch and a half from the top.

Take one of the top folds and fold down one side, to the inside… Iron

cut 2 pieces from the 2 ice cream tops, make them fit inside each side.

Fold over the other piece over the plastic and iron

Now sew the top closed

your done!

Now you can Put it in coffee or Tea, here I’m doing tea…but I like the coffee stains better.

Sorry if this is hard to understand, my native language is American English

I hope this helped some people out... tell me what you think!

the big tri-fold one took me the first 2 godfathers, the little one took me the third and the tutorial took me all of Goodfellas.

this is all hand sewn, no machines

btw, sorry bout the bright images, camera is all screwy!

Nice job on the cases. (I'm not too sure about the marijuana button you have in there, though.) Maybe I'll pull my wife's sewing machine out and give it a try.

I have my own homebrew case. Perhaps I'll post some pics.

Was it really necessary to include the reference to your love of illicit substances?

Thanks for this; it's a really good post and has inspired me to try making a few cases. Perhaps that will be a better solution than just keeping my picks loose in a small canvas bag. :-)
