When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Hey, It's really been a while since I've posted here. I do remember though, from about a year ago, that someone posted a little "how to" on converting a Southord 8-pin tubular lock pick into a 7-pin tubular pick.
I did some searching around the forum and the web and found nothing! I finally have the equipment to do this conversion, and I can't find the how to!
Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?
^guide for this guy...
Thanks, I'm forever indebted.

I've got the PDF. If mods allow me, I'll upload it and post it.

Oh man, that would be amazing. Thanks so much, Beyond. What say you, Mods?
And I mean, if it is considered too advanced for this forum, perhaps I could at least have the name of the document so that I could retrieve it from a resource off of this site?

Yeah, I PMed Shrub looking for some help on the matter of approval. No reply yet! I did find this old thread, but the pictures are blurry. The size of the drill bit is mentioned, as are the methods, but I know that there was a better guide out there somewhere. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for now.

The PDF is an exact copy of that thread, verbatim. Still want it?

Just remove the control pin on the inside of the pick. That makes it possible to insert the pick rotated 1/2 notches to the left or right, which is exactly the difference between the 7 and 8 pin locks, apart from one pin stack is missing in the 7 pin version, but that doesn't matter

Shrubs gone, as freek said.
About your tool, without any modification it will do the offset left and offset right 7pin variants of the ACE lock, These are probably considered higher security just as the 8pin is, therefore they are less common.
They do sell picks that are for the offright and offleft varients, thats two other tools at the same price you bought the 8pin for, so already you are ahead.
I think that if you can just remove the internal pickup, without destroying anything, you can do the common 7 pin centered ace lock.
Other common variants of the type are the undersize and oversize, each about .015" larger or smaller than the common ones.
these locks will pick without any internal pickup for the stem, the pins are through the stem, and the tool can put turning pressure on the stem by pressing on the pins, it works, but you could bend the pins or break the tool if you have a heavy hand, there is even a variation of the bike U lock that has no internal pickup and depends on the key pressing on the pins, this lock may be made with thicker pins or some other way of preventing damage. I have an 8 pin tool that was made by a machinest that has the pickup inside on a stem that goes back to the handle and sliders are just on a tube that spins around this without any connection, this tool does the seven pin the two offsets, and the eight pin, as well as the no center pickup variety. All it dosent do are the varients in diameter.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
