Thanks or that info I will check it out with them I heard from a mate who works in the motor trade that there is a new training center opening in the East Midds area and they are doing a good deal on training as a promotion so I thought maybe its the time to take the plunge.

I will try and find out more. But if anyone knows anything please post.

Thanks.

I checked there training section on the web and no mention of auto locksmithing.

I found out today that the company doing the training in the East Midlands is Above Maintenance Ltd www.abovemaintenance.co.uk

Anyone know anything about this company?

I will give them a call before the week is out and see how they react to the questions I intend asking. And then take it from there. :)

is there facility in Barwell or hinkley ?

id check out there credentials in depth, as many rogues setting up training in autos having been trained on the only decent auto course available at present in knebworth, run by rob at IR training, id find out who and when they trained and ask for proof on how long they have been trading.

find out the instructors names and then ask IR if they have trained them in the past 18 months, if the answer is yes, then they wont know enough to be of use to you.

if on the other hand they are well respected auto lockies with a long and reputable checkable history in the trade and in the ALA, could be a good course, but before i spent £1k id check them out properly and in depth first.

worth mentioning also , id be very sceptical of any course advertising on ebay, as no respected and worthwhile course ever has or would advertise on ebay, its mainly the scams that do so.

im not saying this is a scam , but the way its marketed , cheap website , no address on site and no full itenary listed all raises alarm bells for me, go to the IR training site and see what a reputable company advertises and offers, and you will see my point.

it could be genuine , but too much looks like a cheap rip off of a better course, but of course could just be down to poor marketing knowledge, maybe the auto locksmith training is of a higher standard.

Too many people get badly stung on training in the uk, so my advice research carefully and fully, and compare against a market leader, find out if full ala members, i doubt it, as if they were they would not need to advertise on ebay, just be wary bud.

Do you have a link for IR training. I was considering doing the MLA but its only 2 days and I dont think you can realistically learn the full in's and out's in that time, even though the MLA is respected in the lockie world.

I have done a couple of courses with these (lockie that is). These are very good and value for money. Robert runs the auto course for these. I have done a couple of diffferent lockie courses with different providers and these were the best that I found.

Thanks Lockey for the tips. I went to see there training unit yesterday which I would like to add is not in Barwell or Hinckley it’s just a few minutes off J22 M1

The unit is very big and is fully equipped and all the training is carried out on cars which are loaned by various dealerships the trainer is very well up on his knowledge and comes across as being very confident.

Every question I asked he gave a very quick and direct answer to no ifs and buts. The courses start in March and places are gong quite quick I mentioned the eBay advertising to which he replied with a slight grin was not a part of his marketing but was put on there by one of his staff and has had a lot of enquires from it and sold a course a few months back so as he said not his idea but it’s a open market place to sell almost anything.

He has been trading 8 years and after doing a search through various channels this is correct I also checked through all the directory’s for the east midlands and he his everywhere so not a fly by night and I would not like to pay is advertising it must amount to thousands.

All I want is good honest training I am fully aware of the investment that has to be made to enable one to offer a full mobile service which he also pointed out.
IR Training looks great but not exactly close to me as I will be going to and from on the week and not wanting to stay in a hotel.

So all in all this course looks great and well worth thinking about.
