Bogota Pick Tips

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some tips to get the most from the bogota picks. I just got a set from Raimundo and I can open up most of the locks I have with them but not as easily as I can with my regular picks and tension wrench. I know it's just a matter of getting the knack of it. I appreciate all the advice you are willing to offer.

you may be used to the heavier handed techniques of the hook pick, the bogota is used with light tension and fast light movement of the rake, the concept is to just keep the pins in motion until the core turns. a little bit of in and out and some rocking front to back motion, all light an quick.

I've found the Bogota set to work really well. I've gotten several locks open with the Bogota rake, as raimundo said you need to use light pressure and tension. I'm not really a raking guy, but I've been impressed with how well it's worked.

Mainly I use the half-diamond pick, it's definately smoother than my SouthOrd one. It is a little larger, and may not be suited for some smaller keyways, but if there's adequate room then it's a great pick for SPP.

I got in touch with Raimundo directly to get a set from him. I made a set as per Raimundo's online directions. They came out well but I still like using the set from Raimundo. He does such a beautiful job. I really want to thank him for the great picks. I highly recommend you get a set from him if you don't have any. They are very handy!

I use the handle as a tension wrench and have been able to pop some of the more restrictive keyways with these proto tools. by SPP, not heavy knuckle shuffle

Is there an approximate ratio (or ratio range) from forward-back to up-down motion that you (or anyone else reading this) prefers?

Trip, a good rule of thumb is to insert the Bogota pick of choice untill it reaches the back of the plug and pull it out till the first peak of the pick reaches the pin nearest to the plug face, and up and down range is usually limited to the actual keyhole.

Gentle or rough movements are completely up to you, though gentle to a more moderate motion is what works best for some of us while light tension is being used.
