Key and Lever readers

Postby blade2174 » 12 Feb 2008 16:48

Can someone Give me the basic run down on the use of the souber key and lever reader set . i understand that you take a reading from the key (1-8) but the chubb 114e levers are marked 53 54 5a etc ,im somewhat confused ,
as always all advice gratefully recieved.

where the lever is marked 54 , this signifies that the lever is from a 5 lever lock and is height No 4.

where the lever is 5A ,5B or 5C , this again signifies that the lever is from a 5 lever lock, and is height A , B or C , which is almost the same as height 1 , 2 or 3, just a slightly different lever.

if the lever had 74 on it, then it would be a thinner lever from the 7 lever lock

Most chubb levers don't have straight-forward markings on them - if they did the lever readers would be pretty obsolete! When ever I'm making up lever packs I read each lever on lever reader before using it.

The obvious exception this is with plainly labelled levers, like the era fortress etc.
