When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I decided to make a couple sets of picks. The first set is made of hacksaw blades and i've covered the handles with shrink tubing. The second set, I was aiming for a more compact set and used windshield wiper blades. These were all made with only a dremel.

Nicely done!
As fate would have it, I picked up a couple of hacksaw blades from the hardware store today.
Any chance you can post some dremel videos? Or at least a simple walkthrough for us dremel-impaired folks? I recently bought one and I'm itching to use it, but I'd like to bank off your experience rather than figure it all out from scratch.

Yah, I think I can do that. I'll have to get something together.

For those looking for a video on making picks from hacksaw blades using a grinder and/or a dremel, there's an EXCELLENT video around here somewhere... or you could look it up on google. It was done by a guy named Pyro1234567 or something like that.
After watching it, I felt inspired and ran out to make a four piece set on my grinder, worked out pretty good, if I do say so myself! Matched my professional kit (I checked once I found it after some digging around) almost perfectly, aside from mine being much thinner and having some flex to them, which I actually found I enjoyed.

That's pyro's video.
Also, check my thread below for making picks with only a dremel. It's actually really simple and I'm new to all of this. I just used a grinding wheel (pics in thread) and a reinforced carbon cut off wheel, and it didn't take more than 5 mins.

Just incase you're checking back to this thread for a response I've put together a tutorial for making picks with a dremel/rotary tool. I've put the link in the "0" of "-Safety0ff" in my signature (below) so I can refer to it when I need it.

There is some very good information in there for making picks and tension wrenches.
