Got bored, made picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Got bored, made picks

Got bored at home a while back, so I grabbed some of the windshield wiper inserts I had laying around, grabbed the dremel tool, and kicked these out. These were cut by hand, using a tungsten cutting bit, and then hand sanded. They don't have a mirror shine on them, but they are silky smooth, and work beautifully. I already had a full set of picks that I had bought at LPS, but I wanted something a little smaller. All of these picks fit nicely in a small plastic cigar tube, Swisher Sweet Grape, so they even smell nice when I'm using them.

Probably, with all the sanding and everything, about 30-45 minutes each. I generally only did 2 or 3 a weekend, because I was afraid of annoying my neighbors for too long.

They are a bit thicker than the store bought picks I have, but I don't have any problem fitting them in any of the locks I've tried, and the way I look at it, thicker is more durable, and more resistant to abuse.

I'm jealous, I'm gonna make myself a set one of these days.

josh, grab yourself one of those tungsten carbide cutting bits like he used. You wont wear it out for a long long time on wiper inserts. They're a bit more expensive at $6-$10 and noisier than grinding wheels but they're tough and cut faster with minimal heat.
